Island Living
If you love finding something a little different, Island Living in Nelly Bay is one of those shops where a quick browse can very easily turn into a much longer visit.
Locally owned by Peter and Susan Stein, Island Living brings together an eclectic collection of handmade jewellery, original art, locally made pottery, homewares, furniture, tropical clothing, gifts and Magnetic Island souvenirs. There’s a lot to look through, and the emphasis on pieces created here on Maggie makes it particularly good when you’re looking for something more meaningful to take home.
One of the real highlights is the dedicated local art gallery, showcasing works from Magnetic Island artists across oils, watercolours, acrylics, photography and other mediums. Peter is an artist himself, creating original oil and watercolour paintings inspired by the island’s landscapes and sunsets.
Then there’s the jewellery. With a background in 3 Dimensional Design, Peter has spent decades creating one off jewellery pieces, with a manufacturing jeweller onsite. If mass produced souvenirs aren’t really your thing, this is where you can find something genuinely individual.
Island Living is practical too. You can hire snorkelling equipment, pick up a Magnetic Island snorkel trail card and get yourself sorted before heading out to explore the reefs.
Whether you’re shopping for the house, looking for local art, hunting for a gift or simply having a wander around Nelly Bay, Island Living is well worth popping into.
WHAT WE LOVE
Made on Maggie: Original paintings, locally made pottery and one off jewellery sit alongside gifts and homewares, making this a great place to find something with a genuine Magnetic Island connection.
Peter’s One Off Jewellery: With a background in 3 Dimensional Design and decades spent creating jewellery on the island, Peter produces individual pieces that you’re unlikely to find anywhere else.
The Local Art Gallery: A dedicated gallery gives Magnetic Island artists somewhere to showcase their work, with everything from oils and watercolours to acrylics and photography on display.
Snorkel Sorted: Hire your snorkelling gear and pick up a snorkel trail card while you’re there, then head out and explore Maggie beneath the water as well.
