Right in the middle of charming Nelly Bay, Early Bird Cafe has quickly become a local favourite for breakfast, brunch, and lunch. Taking over the spot where Scallywags used to be, they’ve kept the same chilled island vibe with fresh, tasty food to match. If you loved the café you once knew in Horseshoe Bay, you’ll be happy to know it’s found its new home here in Nelly Bay.
They open early at 7 a.m. and serve up crowd-pleasers all morning and into the afternoon until 2 p.m. You’ll find an all-day breakfast, paninis that are hard to go past, and a menu built around local, organic and free-range ingredients, with plenty of vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free options.
Grab a freshly brewed coffee, dig into a big breakfast, enjoy a stacked panini, or treat yourself to something sweet from the cabinet. Families love the kids’ play area, and with the marina just a short stroll away, it’s an easy stop before or after exploring the island.
Cafes are few and far between in Nelly Bay, so this is one you definitely don’t want to skip.

Prime Location
Right across from the Maggie Island Marina, Early Bird Cafe is an easy walk from the Ferry Terminal and both our big resorts (Peppers and Grand Mercure). It’s on the bus route, and there’s plenty of parking too.
Good honest food
A simple menu with good intentions. Plenty of veggie, vegan and gluten-free options that actually taste good.
Kid-friendly vibe
There’s a play area for the little ones, so parents might actually get to eat their food and relax without having to juggle entertainment duties.
